Social Justice

 

An effort to organize and mobilize around unjust prejudices and policies that affect the community. Through activism the ministry addresses various issues such as wrongful convictions, mass incarceration, predatory lending, zoning, food deserts, voting participation, legal resources and also lends a voice on panels around social issues. 

 

 

General Advocacy Training

 

"The Leader in You" is a three week training that empowers members of the community with tools that will improve leadership skills and help them become better advocates for issues that they care about.  In partnership with My School Options and Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library,  the program will be offered to the community on Tuesday nights from 6pm-8pm April 14th to April 28th at the EVPL Annex Training Room.  Registration will begin in March 2020. 
 

Busting the School to Prison Pipeline

 

This program secured its initial funding from the City of Evansville Department of Metropolitan Development to launch in 2019. The program serves youth and young adults ages 14-21 and will:

 

  • Bring Awareness to policies and practices in school that adversely affect Black and Brown students
  • Provide meaningful programs for students that have been suspended or exposed to the juvenile correctional system that include life skills training and a tract to graduate from high school or earn a GED
  • Provide a safe haven and mentorship to youth
